North Sea Science Park Takes Over All Activities in Europe's Largest Flume Tank
Flume Tank North Sea will become an integral part of the North Sea Science Park, which as of 1 January includes the Flume Tank as an independent business area. Reason being ensuring an even stronger foundation for test and development facilities for the benefit of the blue ecosystem.
The North Sea Science Park takes over the operation and all activities in Flume Tank North Sea, which is Europe's largest test tank for tests, development and displays of equipment for fishing, aquaculture and underwater technology.
Since October 2023, the Flume Tank in Hirtshals has been operated by Flume Tank North Sea A/S, a subsidiary wholly owned by the North Sea Science Park, but this company is now closed.
Flume Tank North Sea will instead become an independent business area in North Sea Science Park with effect from 1 January 2025.
The decision was made to create an even better framework for development and innovation in the Flume Tank, explains Jørgen Christensen, Chairman of the Board of the North Sea Science Park.
“Over the past 15 months, it has become clear that the Flume Tank is a value-creating asset for players within research, development and optimization of various types of subsea equipment, and that the more market- and customer-oriented approach to operations creates value for customers and partners.”
“Fishing, aquaculture and the use of the sea in general are undergoing major changes. With this change, we are bringing the activities in the Flume Tank even closer to the core activities of the North Sea Science Park. This emphasizes that the Flume Tank is an extremely important facility that will continue to create value in the blue world,” says Jørgen Christensen.
Will play a key role in the transition of fisheries
Hanne Kvist, Director of the North Sea Science Park, is pleased that Flume Tank North Sea will now become an independent business area in the Science Park.
“I am very happy and proud that the Board of Directors makes this decision and shows foresight in relation to both the North Sea Science Park and Flume Tank North Sea's role in the blue ecosystem,” she says
“The merger will strengthen the synergies between development, research and education to the great benefit of a wide range of stakeholders. We look forward to continuing and strengthening our solid collaboration with key customers and fishery stakeholders in the transition the fishery faces in the coming years,” says Hanne Kvist.
There will be no changes to the daily operations at Flume Tank North Sea. The current staff will continue, and Business Development Manager Mette Hyldgaard Roussis continues managing the Flume tank – in combination with heading business development in North Sea Science Park
