Six members of the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries (PECH) visited Flume Tank North Sea in the North Sea Science Park on Tuesday.
The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the innovation taking place in the development of sustainable fishing equipment, of which the flume tank in Hirtshals plays an important part.
The guests were welcomed by CEO Hanne Kvist and Business Development Manager Mette Hyldgaard Roussis, who spoke about the role Flume Tank North Sea plays in bringing together research, development and industry to create joint innovative solutions to some of the challenges facing the fishing industry.
The two-hour visit included a presentation by Thyborøn Trawldoor, who presented steerable trawl doors and talked about the ongoing innovation that takes place in collaboration with the fishing industry.
New solutions that are all being tested in Flume Tank North Sea.
“We are happy to welcome decision-makers from the EU to Flume Tank North Sea and show them our facilities and some of the important innovation that, among other things, has been created through testing in the test tank,” says Hanne Kvist.
“The fishing industry is facing a major transition in the coming years, and we look forward to continuing and strengthening our collaboration with key players in the industry in the future.”
During the visit, the politicians had the opportunity to see a model of a bottom trawl and trawl doors in action in the test tank, as well as being shown around in the netmaker workshop.
In December, Danish MEP Asger Christensen (V) visited the test tank, and Tuesday's visit came about because he recommended his political colleagues to visit Flume Tank North Sea.
