Recently, a team from the Faroe Islands visited the flume tank in Hirtshals.

The equipment manufacturer Netastovan had booked a day at Flume Tank North Sea to test new gear intended to be an alternative to a traditional rockhopper. This is the gear attached to the bottom of a trawl, just above the seabed.

The company tested the new gear on two different trawl models. One from Isfell and one from Selstad, both of which own a stake in Netastovan.

Netastovan brought two of their own staff to Hirtshals, and in addition, four customers were invited to join. There were also three representatives from Selstad participating via a video link from Norway, and it all went well, says CEO René Havmand.

“We use the flume tank in Hirtshals to ensure that our innovation works in practice. We have tested the solution on a full scale with fishermen from the Faroe Islands, but we still need to see the gear in action with our own eyes, and we can only do that in a facility like this. It is very valuable to us,” he says.

Netastovan was founded in 2022, and they have used Flume Tank North Sea in Hirtshals several times.
