On Monday 6 December, Flume Tank North Sea hosted some interesting guests.
The Danish Fishers PO and the Danish Pelagic Producers Organisation had invited MEP Asger Christensen (V) to visit the Flume Tank in the North Sea Science Park.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce the politician and several participants from the organizations to the flume tank, which is part of the North Sea Science Park in Hirtshals. The participants were shown models of pelagic trawl and bottom trawl, and there was a good and constructive debate.
The visitors had the opportunity to see a model bottom trawl and model trawl doors in action, and Henrik Andreasen, Area Sales Manager at Thyborøn Trawldoor, presented steerable trawl doors and talked about the ongoing innovation that takes place in collaboration with the fishing industry.
According to Asger Christensen, it was a valuable visit to Europe's largest flume tank.
“It's unique that we have these kinds of facilities in Denmark for such an important industry as fishing,” says Asger Christensen. s
"It's crucial to have this type of facility that can help create innovation and new solutions, both in terms of fuel savings and creating fishing equipment that is gentler on the seabed. We need to develop the fishing industry instead of dismantling it, and the flume tank can help with that.”
If he has his way, this won't be his last visit. He plans to invite political colleagues from the European Parliament to Hirtshals.
"Many politicians should visit the flume tank to learn more about the different types of fishing equipment. I hope to take the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee on a visit in the spring, which I'm really looking forward to,” says Asger Christensen.
