Prototype of Sustainable Water Pump Tested in the Flume Tank

We had a couple of very exciting and unusual days in the flume tank.

There has been a lot of activity, but this time it has not been about fishing or aquaculture.

We had a visit from the company HyKin Energy A/S, led by Mark Amelung and Svend-Erik Ringtved, who are well underway with the development of a sustainable solution for water access.

The solution is called HyKin Pump, and without the use of fuel or electricity, natural water currents are used to pump water from, for example, a river, which can then be used to generate electricity, purified into drinking water or used to irrigate crops.

This is the first time they are testing the prototype under controlled conditions. It has been very valuable to see the pump in action and be able to make ongoing adjustments, explains Mark Amelung.

"The flume tank is absolutely crucial to our development work with HyKin Pump. The facilities are really good, and the staff are very knowledgeable, which is a great help to us. We are taking home lots of data that we can evaluate, and we will be back in the future," he says.

HyKin Energy's two days of testing in the test tank are funded by NRGi Værdipulje, which provides support for selected projects that promote the green transition. The project is also supported by the Innovation Fund Denmark.
